Join your fellow Fundraising Colleagues for a half day of in-depth fundraising workshops and discussions that focus on Fundraising Planning & Strategy; Stewardship & Individual Giving; Grant Writing & Research; culminating with an AMA with the panelists on their Career Development Journeys.

Session Content will be geared toward fundraising professionals in the first five years of their careers, but everyone is welcome and will find these sessions valuable. 

Light refreshments will be available during the day. 

Full participation in Winter Fundraising Symposium is applicable for 3 points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.


Session Speakers

Fundraising Planning & Strategy 
Joshua Leach, Director of Development, Urban Glass

Joshua Leach has worked as a Development and Fundraising leader for community and cultural organizations in New York City for more than a decade. He is presently the Director of Development at UrbanGlass, a New York City based nonprofit established in 1977 that fosters experimentation and advances the use and critical understanding of glass as a creative medium. A graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, he serves on the Hobart Alumni Association as the Co-Chair of the newly formed LGBTQIA+ Alumni Network. Joshua is also a member of the Toni Morrison Society and serves on the selection committee for the Society’s Bench by the Road Project, a memorial history and community outreach initiative, placing benches at sites of historical importance throughout the African diaspora.

 

Stewardship & Individual Giving
Melissa Benjamin, Director of Development, Fiver Children’s Foundation

Melissa was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and holds a bachelor's in Sports/Entertainment/Event Management from Johnson & Wales University, and a  master's in Public Administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from Long Island University-Brooklyn Campus.  She has been a successful fundraiser for over fifteen years and currently oversees all fundraising and marketing efforts for Fiver Children’s Foundation as their director of development.  She is a member of the inaugural cohort of Youth Inc's Rise Academy for Leaders of Color, an award-winning ten-month-long program for BIPOC leaders in the nonprofit sector.  She successfully completed the program in May 2022.

In her spare time, Melissa is a long-suffering NY Knicks fan and enjoys music, travel, writing, watching wrestling, and learning about wine.  She currently resides in the Bronx with her fiance and is excitedly planning their wedding in August 2023!

 

Grant Writing & Research
Veronica Bainbridge, AFP-NYC Board Member

Veronica Bainbridge serves on the Board of Directors for the New York City Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is currently Chief Advancement Officer at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and was previously Deputy Director for Development at Madison Square Park Conservancy, whose acclaimed public art program won the national competition to commission the U.S. Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Veronica has also held fundraising leadership roles at the International Center for Photography, the Vineyard Theatre and Labyrinth Theater Company. She has served as a panelist and speaker at Baruch College, Christie's Education, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the High Line Network, and Fundraising Day in New York.
