An inspiring afternoon with celebrated civic leader and advocate Luis A. Miranda, Jr., who will be in conversation with Maurine Knighton, Chief Program Officer at the Doris Duke Foundation. They will discuss philanthropic strategy, cultural planning, community development, and advocacy and organizing—offering insights that will resonate for all mission-driven organizations.

LUIS A. MIRANDA JR. has over four decades of experience as a leader in the public, private, political, and advocacy sectors.  He is founding partner of the MirRam Group, founding president of Hispanic Federation, partner at Unsinkable, and chairperson of the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, Viva Broadway and The Public Theater, and former chair of Latino Victory Fund. Through the Miranda Family Fund and Miranda Family Fellowship, he and his family have created and fostered institutions that work with underserved populations in Upper Manhattan and communities throughout New York City, across the country, and in Puerto Rico. They are active supporters of initiatives that increase people of color’s representation throughout the arts and government and promote Puerto Rico’s renaissance through the Flamboyan Arts Fund. His memoir, Relentless: My Story of the Latino Spirit That Is Transforming America, was released in 2024.

MAURINE KNIGHTON is Chief Program Officer at the Doris Duke Foundation, where she oversees five national programs in the arts, environment, medical research, child well-being, and greater mutual understanding among diverse communities – ensuring the Foundation fulfills its mission to build a more creative, equitable, and sustainable future. Previously, she directed the Foundation’s Arts Program, leading signature efforts such as the Doris Duke Artist Awards. Throughout her career, she has advanced equity at the intersection of arts and social justice, co-founding the Pop Culture Collaborative and the Mosaic Network and Fund. Knighton has also held senior roles at the Nathan Cummings Foundation, Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, and 651 ARTS. She currently serves on the boards of Firelight Media and Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone.
